Igor Abramovych: “The best works by key contemporary authors end up in the collections of the leading collectors”

22 October 2015

On the 31st of October in the gallery of the "Koruna" hotel in the Carpathians, the exhibition "Ukrainian Contemporary Art. From Private Collections" is opened. The co-curator of the project Igor Abramovych explains the idea behind it.

The consistent creation of the collection of contemporary artworks is a needed and profitable exchange between the artist and the viewer. It is a contribution to the today's day and at the same time a long-sighted investment for the future. The collectors play now and have always played a definitive role in the museumification of the art. The biggest world museums are based on collections, assembled by private collectors. The role, played by the collectors, is noticeable and by all means meaningful for our country at this day and age. It is only natural, that according to the laws of the market, the best works by key contemporary authors end up in the collections of the leading collectors. Thus, an illustration of the actual art situation is formed: an indicator of real values and a prognosis for the development of the events on contemporary art scene; so, the foundation for the contemporary art museum is being created by natural means. It is completely obvious, that the demonstration of these works in the public space is required, to let them be a part of the public domain while safely kept in the hands of the collectors.
