Gardens, a cycle of works by one of the most prominent Ukrainian graphic artists Pavel Makov, is a logical continuation of his 15-year history with a utopia, a place which does not exist. For the author, the garden is a metaphor for life, one of its most archaic symbols. The gardens by Makov are a sort of remembrance about Eden where humans were chased from, but they still wish to come back there. The author understands a garden as a golden middle, a symbol of humans’ harmony both with themselves and with nature. A garden is an idea joining many generations together with a thought one should create one’s life and bear responsibility for it. In other words, you are to tend your own garden.
