A miniature but no less expressive work called The Cage is dedicated to the lives of Donbass miners, just like most paintings by Roman Minin. The work directly refers to cages the miners go down the mines in towards their unpredictable fate. Symbolically, the author raises the issue of freedom and its lack  – i.e., freedom of choice, mental self-definition, predetermined difficult path. At the same time, the object reminds of the icon frame, and the miners, of the saints’ images. Such reference telling about sacrifice and humility is also rather characteristic of Minin’s work.
